Icod de Los Vinos is a municipality in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, located in the northwestern part of the island 25 km from the city Puerto de la Cruz.
This small town was found around the 15th century and has preserved its historical and artistic heritage to this day. Its cobbled streets are lined with traditional Canarian style houses with carved wooden balconies. In addition, Icod offers the best views of the Teide volcano.
Icod also has one of the most picturesque squares in the Canary Islands - Pila square, built up with old mansions, some of which have become museums. But the main attraction is the Dragon Tree - a thousand-year-old dracaena included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. According to legend, this tree appeared at the place where the dragon's blood was shed. Mysticism enhances the red colour of the resin of this tree, reminiscent of blood. This plant is considered one of the oldest on the planet.
The city is famous not only for its sacred tree but also for its wine, as one of the main economic activities of the municipality is the cultivation of grapes. Therefore, almost all excursions in this area end with wine and liqueur tastings at local wineries.
